Friday Flower Fiesta (11-3-17)—Alternatives to that all-white landscaping of the north

Friday Flower Fiesta

I never have been a fan of that all-white landscaping that they seem to prefer this time in northern states. It’s just boring. I want flowers. Lots of flowers. Like these:

All of those started as plain ol’ pictures of flowers. I used Redfield’s Fractalius G4 to add a little extra pizzazz to them. Fractalius in one of my favorite photo editing programs. It’s interesting because it literally has millions of settings.

The bad part is that I could not tell you exactly what setting I used for any of those pictures above. The good part is that I could not tell you exactly what setting I used for any of those pictures, which means they truly are one of a kind because other than telling you that I used Fractalius, I wouldn’t know how to do any of them again.

Fractalius does have a little die which you can click on. It’s like rolling the dice. You don’t know what setting is going to come up. It also has a “last used” setting but I quickly discovered that what I liked for the last picture doesn’t necessarily work for the current picture, so I usually just keep rolling the die until I get something I like.

Friday Flower Fiesta (4-3-15)—Most popular

Friday Flower Fiesta

I am a member of several groups at Facebook but my two favorites are Flowers Exchange and World Is Our Garden.

Both groups allow members to post one picture per day. Once that’s done, members stop by and leave LIKEs and comments.

My most popular post got 36 LIKEs and comments.

Interestingly, the Photographic Art that I thought would be most popular, wasn’t. That might not be the full story, though, because I don’t know where people are as far as time zone, what else they might be doing on any specific day, how much time they spend on Facebook, etc. Which days get more views, weekdays or weekends? However, I have noticed a distinct liking for certain effects, so that is helpful to me in my Photographic Art endeavors.

Following are eleven of my most popular posts from both groups. All of them without the stamp framing and text are available for purchase at my Photographic Art galleries at Fine Art America.

Friday Flower Fiesta #18 — Coronado for Memorial Day

Pictures copyright 2012 Russel Ray Photos

Friday Flower Fiesta

I had a very busy week and almost didn’t get out and about to get some flower pictures for our Friday Flower Fiesta. Have no fear, though. I did.

Memorial Day weekend is when I celebrate one of my anniversaries. I have four:

  1. May 26, 1994 — The day we met
  2. July 1, 1995 — The day we started shacking up together
  3. July 31, 2004 — The day we got civil unionized
  4. October 30, 2008 — The day we got married (we did it in California because marriage was legal at the time)

I’m very much a romantic, although Jim would way a devious romantic. I have a full weekend of activities planned for our 18th anniversary of meeting.

We started our anniversary weekend with a great meal at Costa Azul on Coronado Island, home to Coronado Beach, named today as the #1 beach in America. I chose Coronado because the Island is always full of beautiful flowers, flowers that love the cooler temperatures and higher humidity that we don’t have on the mainland.

Without further addoo (that’s Texan for adiuex), today’s Friday Flower Fiesta:

Folks who have been following me for a while know that I’ve been on a quest for 34 years to find the perfect Bird of Paradise (Picture 14). That’s not it. Probably #3 in my collection. I like it a lot because the background is water. Rarely do I find a Bird of Paradise growing so close to the water that some of the blossoms are hanging over the water.
