Cats

Four pictures of feral cats with attitude. I didn’t tell them I was going to make them Internet stars but maybe they knew!

These are part of the feral colony that we call the San Diego Jetty Cats. So there is water on both sides of this jetty and difficult for the poor cats to find food. Thus there are many people who go out on a regular basis and leave them food and water. Including me. I go the first Saturday of each month. Been doing that for 20 years now. The colony usually is about 20 cats, but during the Great Recession and the real estate bubble burst, people were dumping their cats there. The colony grew to over 180 cats. Fortunately, many that were used to humans were rescued and taken to shelters where they were subsequently adopted.

Never heard of them before. I hope people are trapping and releasing, and not just feeding them. That’s really the best approach to feral colonies. I have a semi-feral, myself; and I used to volunteer with an animal shelter.

These cats are definitely stars with cool attitudes! Love them. We woke up to snow yesterday. It has not snowed here since 2004. Today it is all gone and the sun is back out. It is heartbreaking to see all the fires in California. A strange year for everyone!

My Kingsville hometown group on Facebook reports that they had 4.2 inches of snow there. It was pretty cool seeing all the pictures of my elementary, junior, and high schools covered in snow. It snowed on us in 1968 when I was in 7th grade. Snow day! Yahoooooo!

They probably are upset because no one’s been by with food in a while. When it gets cold here (defined as lower than 60°F) some people quit going to the Jetty. If it wasn’t so far away, I’d go every weekend, every day if I lived a couple of blocks away.

I tried that once early in our life together. 1995 I think it was. He would starve himself to death rather than cook, unless one wanted to eat buttered toast morning, noon, and night. With no jam. Just butter.
