Obama is coming for your guns. Here’s the schedule.

Did you know?

Recently I posted on Facebook about a co-worker (NOT a friend) who believes President Obama is coming for your guns this year since he hasn’t come for your guns during his first seven years in office.

Apparently, President Obama reads Facebook because I got this letter from him dated the same day as my Facebook post.

Letter from Presidento Obama

I made sure that the tour made it to South Texas (Kingsville and Corpus Christi) twice since that’s where many of my relatives live, and they have more guns than the United States Army….

Go get ’em, Mr. President!

In Chicago we had a ban on guns and it worked!!! All the law abiding citizens were left without any guns, but the gun ban didn’t put a dent on crime and gun-related-murders in Chicago. Maybe the focus should be on job creation instead– (these aren’t my words, but the words of a concerned minority citizen in Chicago who says that their youth turn to crime because they can’t find jobs!) -just a thought I wanted to share.

      Three problems there.

First, when one can go across the city and state borders and buy all the guns one wants, a ban on guns in just one city isn’t going to work. Sadly, too few people realize that.

Second, there are plenty of jobs but youth don’t want to work unless the job pays $100,000 a year. As an example, several years ago I advertised in three papers—a weekly, a big state university daily, and the San Diego Union-Tribune— for landscape help at $20 an hour. I advertised for two weeks. Not a single inquiry. I went to Home Depot where all the south-of-the-border and seasonal works hang out and had a hundred people wanting to come work for me. All they wanted was $10 an hour. I hired 5 of them and wound up paying them $15/hour each for a week’s work at 8 hours per day. They were happy, and I was happy. I’d be wiling to bet I could do the same thing in Chicago or any other city. Youth don’t want to work because their parents have spoiled them with DVD players, CD players, iTunes, iPad, iPhone, etc., before they ever even made it to first grade.

Third, the Republicans have not offered a single jobs creation bill in the 7 years Obama has been president. Not a single one. They have, however, voted over 60 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act and voted against everything the president has proposed.

For example: “Chicago’s gun laws are not as tough as the candidates claim, and there are some major loopholes that make it relatively easy to get guns, including our proximity to Indiana, a state with virtually no gun restrictions, according to Bloomberg.”
      and
“About 60 percent of guns recovered in connection with an arrest in Chicago from 2009 to 2013 were from out of state, 24 percent were from Indiana and 22 percent were from parts of Cook County outside the city where gun laws are looser, according to a study conducted by Philip Cook, a Duke public policy professor and economist who works with the University of Chicago Crime Lab. ”

I found lots of jobs in Chicago, everything from minimum wage jobs to $100,000 jobs: http://www.metrochicagojobs.com/default.asp

Also, if you look like these guys: https://www.google.com/search?q=most+pierced+man&biw=1507&bih=909&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj6g8ye45_KAhVBQSYKHd2uAGEQ7AkIJg

Omg, I’m not sure what to think of your dedication to the “go get em” cause, but if you want to help me plan my next big road trip, …
And seriously, why do have this pervasive feeling that the NRA worshippers automatically dismis ANYTHING our president says or suggests, not unlike a spoiled teenager dismissing anything his parents say. Frankly… I don’t get it! I heard Obama clearly say he is not focused on taking away guns, but offering a sane reasonable conversation about managing the firearm problems in this country. Common sense says we license citizens to drive licensed cars… Irrational sense says we do nothing to register guns and nothing to limit high capacity weapons. I really don’t get it!

There are many of us who don’t get it, although I think it has a lot to do with the color of one’s skin. Witness the Oregon cowboy terrorists. Is there any question at all what would have happened if they had been any color but white?

I think it is wonderful that you have supplied jobs to the needy!!! I wish more and more would think like you do. J. K. Rowlings (Harry Potter author of course!) used to be one of the top ten richest Billionaires in the world. No longer is she in the running because she keeps giving her monies to different charities– Yay!!! (I wish more knew that ‘you can’t take it with you–in fact, I believe that the more we have, the more we will have to account for in the final judgement!)

Reasons Obama is not trusted with Gun – Control!
.: “…If you want to keep your doctor and/or healthcare provider, you can keep him. Period.”
Obama initially campaigned on taking away all guns- at least he threw it out as a tasty tidbit…

And in those states where the Affordable Care Act was fully instituted, you can keep your doctor and/or healthcare provider. Period. It’s definitely not Obama’s fault that a bunch of Republican governors didn’t adopt the ACA in their states, thus causing people in those states either not to be able to keep their doctor or healthcare provider or for insurance premiums in those states to skyrocket because the insurance companies still had to comply with the national law. Not joining in nationally caused problems in those red states.

As far as Obama initially campaigning on taking away all guns, can you provide a reliable source, reliable meaning not some right-wing propaganda machine like Fox News or Breitbart. I don’t believe you can because he never did.

Even in some states that (Democratic leadership) implemented it, they’re finding it unsustainable. I agree it isn’t their fault. It is the process that is flawed.
          1. Healthcare used to be a field based on healthcare for the patients. Doctors were not rich, neither were hospitals.
          2. Insurance companies vowed to make healthcare more affordable. Instead, the price skyrocketed. Why? Drive by an Insurance building. Lavish, fountains, indoor gardens, and well paid, very well paid employees. How do they pay for this? The healthcare customer, the patient is charged more. The patient pays now not only for the Healthcare they received, but also the salaries, perks, buildings and paperwork that the insurance company now devours–like a hungry beast!
          3. When I heard about the affordable care act, my first thought was, “Oh no! one middleman was enough- the insurance company– but now there will be 2 middle-men. We will now be paying the salaries, offices, buildings, costs of the government when it dips its fingers in the pot. Nothing is free.
I want affordable care for everyone, and free care for the poor. But adding to the costs of healthcare –duh– by adding GOVERNMENT personnel, more buildings, more offices, more paperwork, MORE PENSIONS— is a no brainer.
In Canada, those who want expert care come to the US. Also, many find them selves on long waiting lists not just to receive care, but to be ‘taken in’ by a doctor. I was reading a blog by a seriously ill blogger who was asking for prayers since the doctor shortage there is great, and no doctor will take him on.
There has got to be a better system. Everyone, Insurance companies; Healthcare providers, and now the government; is asking for a financial piece of the patient.
Ditch it all, and expand medicare & medicaid, make those competitive so that all receive the care they need…

Hmmmmmmm. Doctors and hospitals have been rich throughout my lifetime, and I’m now almost 61.

The facts don’t support your statement that the price of healthcare has skyrocketed. Instead, every report I have read says that health care costs have slowed dramatically year by year since 2009. That’s overall, though. Costs have gone up more in Republican states than in Democratic states. No surprise there………….

The main problem is that we moved from people filing claims by doing their own paper work to having the doctors file the claims for us. People who work in doctors’ offices doing anything at all make a lot more money than the average Joe.

Your #3 is a bunch of hooey.

I know a lot of Canadians, and not a single one of them has come to the United States for care. On the other hand, I do know a lot of Americans who have gone to Canada and Mexico for care. An old boss of mine used to take his family of five to Toronto each year just for physicals and such. All free, and he and his family were United States citizens!

The government isn’t asking for a financial piece of the patient. More hooey. In fact, the Affordable Care Act forces insurance companies to spend 80% of their premiums on patient care, or refund the premiums. So just about your whole comment is a bunch of hooey.

The Affordable Care Act expanded Medicaid but left it up to the states, and guess which states chose not to expand Medicaid. Yep. Republican states. Here’s the latest map of state Medicaid expansion: https://www.statereforum.org/Medicaid-Expansion-Decisions-Map?gclid=Cj0KEQiA5dK0BRCr49qDzILe74UBEiQA_6gA-oirFdNIItKYIRiDZap0pHwFt3xvCtKcld5XqDLTAZgaApg_8P8HAQ

Can the system be made better? Sure it can. The ACA was the first attempt. It has some flaws, but it certainly is better than the nothing that the Republicans want. I went without health insurance from 1/1/04 to 1/1/14 because of pre-existing conditions. The ACA did away with that, so I now have health insurance, affordable health insurance. There is no lifetime cap on benefits anymore, something that I saw firsthand with when two of my uncles died of cancer before the ACA. So much more is good with the ACA than is bad……

p.s., I haven’t heard the word “hooey” in a long time~ You’ve misread me if you think that I support insurance companies who would reject people for preexisting conditions, (and who denied care fraudulently at times to members in need due to cost). Like you I hope that they iron out the very real glitches in some areas where people are unhappy with the ACA. On the side, I don’t understand why there are laws blocking buying cheaper insurance across state lines. Not fair.

It’s called “state’s rights” and “interstate commerce.” Sadly, Congress won’t do anything about it….

The only people who seem to be unhappy with the ACA seem to be in Republican states where the ACA has not been implemented. Coincidence? I have lots of family and friends in my home state of Texas who are not happy with the ACA. Well, it’s not the ACA or even the insurance companies. It’s Rick Perry, Gregg Abbott, and others of their ilk who refuse to help the people….

Sometimes there are even more than two sides to every story, but in today’s Internet world, if one digs deep enough, one can actually find facts and the truth….

Go get ’em, Russel Ray! Interesting, though, In Hawaii, the reason King K. became King – guns & ammo. then he put a hex on war. when the Dole family came in to take over Hawaii, they brought out the US Marines, and without firing a shot, took over HI from King K III. His sister took over as Queen and the Doles renegotiated, but the Queen had the US Congress on her side. The Doles asked the US Congress if it wanted to bring the US army against him, a US citizen, and HI became US Territory. I’m not sure what that says about gun control. Probably a lot. Had they fought back, they would have been descimated – end of story, if not by the US, then the next greater power. Would that be the same here in the US? Hard to say.

Oh, Chicago? Holder told authorities not to bother enforcing their strict gun laws – just get the guns. (Why, I have no idea. Hasn’t worked). Most of the proposed
“new” gun initiatives are already laws in states like TX and CA. Gun show loop hole closed here a while back. Guns in homes must he secured and locked. They are supposed to pick up guns from those who are mentioned by protective orders – but rarely do…so back to the old “if only they would enforce the laws on the books here, we’d all be better off. Not real thrilled with open carry – too many posers with ego problems and bad tempers/bad judgement (civilians as well as cops).
I would have been more impressed if there had been an empty chair for those killed by violent mentally ill individuals.
    Sigh
Most doctors now work for hospital corporations on salaries and it’s not pretty. (Try being on-call and operating 4 days straight – instead of hiring another surgeon or substitute doc when needed. It’s happening. Cost effective, patients at risk and neglected, docs crashing. Not looking good if this trend holds)
Here at the big med center, I know multiple Canadian docs who have moved here for better working conditions. Canadian interns and residents employed here rush to get any medical treatments they need here before returning home – where they would have to wait so long for their turn. Also I didn’t know Canada limits how much a doc can make there so once that amount is earned, the doc has a choice of working for free or working as many do in the US for part of the year…and eventually move here…Wish something would rein in insurance companies trying to tell docs what treatments/meds they can use for patients. And freeze Big Pharm companies power over drug pricing. ( who stand to gain big time from this new Cancer (Which is an umbrella term) initiative….need some serious guidelines/strings before the money is handed out.
Really great post, Russel. I can always count on you for a laugh and great pictures. Thanks
