Mac is an Apple product. Apple lost me as a customer in 1983, for this life and the next 8 lives. Nothing they have done since then has even remotely encouraged me to give them a fourth strike.

Oh, I’m sorry for that experience you had. I see most of my friends with PC computers getting hacked, regularly. So I like the extra online security involved in their products. Also I work in a small business, the boss choose 100% Mac computers.

Thanks for your reply. Are you looking at top 10 lists for web sites? I need to choose.

Hacking, viruses, and malware are gaining a foothold in the Mac world, too. It’s basically a law of popularity, so when Macs weren’t popular, no one would write bad stuff for them or hack them. Now that they are much more popular, more bad people are writing bad stuff for them. I have been in the PC world since 1983 when I left Apple. I have never been hacked but have been affected by malware. Since I’ve always been involved with personal computers since day one, security has always been at the forefront, both for myself and the companies I worked with, so I always have been proactive in taking care of my computers.

Top 10 lists for web sites? Not sure what you are referring to. I have two sites that belong to me, one running WordPress from WordPress.org, and one being something I set up myself. I’m thinking that if WordPress doesn’t get things straightened out soon, I might just go my own way.

I’m still using the “classic” editor and always have (from the dashboard – posts – new post). I never even saw that “bee boop” one everyone was complaining about. I’m in the UK but I’m sure the classic editor is still available in the US too? It’s possible that WP try stuff out in certain countries first.

Classic editor from dashboard, posts, new posts, doesn’t work anymore at my site, as of this morning. Worked yesterday like that. I knew eventually they would force us to go with the new editor.

They might also be switching based on how much money we pay them. I pay $99 a year so that I don’t have to use the “wordpress.com” URL. I do know that because of that, I get the :latest and greatest updates” before many people do.

            Russel,
I pay them 99 bucks a year, too, for my main blog [Pit’s Fritztown News] – not to have my own URL but to have it ad-free. My other blog [Pit’s Bilderbuch] is a free one. For both, up to now, I can still get to the classic editor. Like I said before, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Have you ever tried to get an answer from support, maybe through a forum? I know there’s been quite a lot of discussion at the beginning of this year about this subject matter. Not the the staff was very helpful then.
Maybe you’ll try and ask “timethief” [@ https://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/ or @ https://twitter.com/timethief%5D. She usually knows a lot about WP.
Take care, my friend, and good luck with your further blogging, wherever it takes you,
            Pit

            Russel,
Yesterday I contacted WP support and asked if the were taking away the classic editor and today I got the following answer from a person called Danny:

“I haven’t heard or seen a single motion to remove the classic view. I’m totally on board with you in that the classic editor is much more comfortable for me (I come from a WordPress.org background where it’s the only option), and it will be a LONG time before it goes away, if it ever really does. You’re safe for the foreseeable future. :)”

Maybe you should try and find out if they can help you?
            Happy Thanksgiving to you,
            Pit

That’s the technique I had been using since January or so. It’s not available anymore on my blog. One of the problems with paying $99 a year to WordPress to have my own URL is that they force you to use what they want you to use. They might lose me completely if they don’t fix the editor.

I still can get the old one by going into blog posts and clicking “add new” at the top. I HATE the new editor. I checked and got the old version just now. But I’ll probably be joining the others in cutting and pasting if they take it away.

That was one way to skip the new editor when they went to the new editor earlier this year. Sadly, that way now takes me to the newest version of the new editor. I have tried all the techniques to get to the classic editor and none of them work anymore. All take me to the newest version of the new editor.

There is a workaround made by someone, I read about it yesterday when I found it in a tweet but I didn’t saved the tweet and now I can’t find it. 😦
I saved my “old dashboard” link and I never access the new interface, the old editor is right there, I would be opening a lot of forum entries if I didn’t had that.

Some users still haven’t been affected, but clearly it’s creeping in slowly on everyone. I think it’s truly a pity because WordPress had a great foundation of solid features and they are just ignoring feedback. Very sad.

    Hi Russel,
Now you’re making me nervous. For now, I can still get to the classic editor, both via a direkt link and via the dashboard. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that that will remain as I really don’t know what I’d do – even if I’ve never tried the new editor.
I’d hate to see you go, but I can understand. What really p****s me off is the utter disregard of WP for their customers. Who do they think they are?
    Take care, my friend,

Those used to work to skip the new editor when they went to the new editor earlier this year. In fact, I think you’re the one who taught me the dashboard secret. Sadly, those ways now take me to the newest version of the new editor. I have tried all the techniques to get to the classic editor and none of them work anymore. It’s a common problem with “open source” stuff where anyone and everyone can contribute. I remember a few years ago when some comedian was talking about Wikipedia where everyone can contribute: “The great thing about Wikipedia is that anyone can contribute. That worst thing about Wikipedia is that anyone can contribute.”

How come? As I discovered when I became a volunteer editor at Wikipedia, we take sources very seriously. If something can’t be verified with creditable sources, we argue about whether or not to include it. If we include it, it gets lots of questions as citations, such as “Need verification” and “Source?”.

I understand that, but Wikipedia itself is a great source to get sources. Whenever I need to find lots of sources in one place, I immediately go to Wikipedia. I don’t mess with Google anymore because it returns too many crappy “sources” that are not even relevant to what I searched for.

I agree Russell. I don’t like that it’s the default. At all. I do the extra step and go to wp admin. Frustrating but I’ll not use that editor period. Not sure of the rationale. Please don’t go away.
