Music on Mondays (11-16-15)—I’ll drive

The Music Chronicles of Russel Ray

One of my long-time friends asked me why I took the new job since it is not exactly brain-intensive work.

Well, first and foremost, I can tell you that age discrimination is rampant in the work force, and it doesn’t matter what industry.

Over the last two years, I have been trying to work my way out of the home inspection industry because my knees and shoulders just don’t like crawling around under houses or up in attics anymore.

It seems every company with which I had been communicating wanted (1) “someone who can dedicate his/her life to the company” or (2) “someone who can make a career here” or (3) “someone who wants more than just a job.”

(1) means that they didn’t expect me to have much life left to dedicate to the company.

(2) means that they didn’t think I was actually looking for a career since I will either retire or die before I have time to make yet one more career.

(3) means that they thought that all I was looking for was a job to carry me over until retirement or death.

There is a lot to be said about having your own company and being self-employed because then those factors don’t come into play. You either sink or swim based on your own skills, knowledge, and business management.

That’s my take on it…………

I also came up with a nice tagline to explain why I took the new job:

Republicans cry,
Republicans bitch,
Our rich are too poor
And our poor are too rich.

Wait!

That’s not it!

Here it is:

ScooBeez
Where I get paid to sit in traffic
and listen to my 1,774 hours of music.

Whenever I talk about music, long time friends pay attention……:)

I average listening to 10 hours and 2 minutes of music each and every day, which means it takes me a little over 177 days to listen to everything….

….And I do listen to it all, in chronological order—I’m in 1971 right now.

My high day was January 10, 2015, when I listened to 18 hours, 30 minutes, and 38 seconds of music. I might be able to top that with the new job since the new Corolla has a thumb drive for the audio system. I copy music to the thumb drive each day, plug it into the car’s audio system, and off I go! Rockin’ and rollin’ down the highway, or at least as much rollin’ as urban traffic/rush hour traffic will allow….

Following is a selection of songs that I will be listening to in the car today while driving. Hope they bring back some pleasant memories.

I never did when I had a reason to get home, such as making money by using the computer. Now that I actually get paid to get stuck in traffic, and I have my own music on thumb drive, uninterrupted by commercials, I have not problem whatsoever with getting stuck in traffic!
