The Fab Four at the Fab Fair

Out & About

Today is the last day of the San Diego County Fair, North America’s seventh largest fair based on 2013 attendance. According to the Fair’s online counter, 1,404,896 people have attended the Fair so far. The last day is always huge, and the online counter is reflecting that because it’s moving so fast I can’t keep up with it. Just in the time it took me to dictate that, the counter now says 1,405,065……

This year’s fair is celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles coming to America in 1964 with its theme “The Fab Fair.” Here are some Fab Fair Fab Four pictures from my visit to the Fair on July 2.

Since most fairs are agricultural in content, this exhibit was no surprise:

The following two pictures were taken at the entrance to the Fair:

A book I have read several times:

The following six pictures are chalk art in the garden exhibit:

The fourth chalk art above won the People’s Choice award, and is my favorite, too, although I also like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (fifth chalk art).

No surprise that there was a Volkswagen Beetle Bug in one of the gardens.

Great. Just took my son to see (again) A Hard Day’s Night & we had a blast. I sometimes think, what if I’d liked another group then, like, Gerry and the Pacemakers? Would I still have felt in love with the Beatles, once my old favorites folded? Or would I be so devastated as not to follow any other group in particular? Who cares? I’m glad I was hit by the very best from the beginning, with no ‘interruptions,’ so now, after all these years, there are still things to enjoy about them and their music. Thanks for this, Russell.

In the third picture, someone sure knew how to get the masks right on each character by exaggerating each one’s distinguishing features. Great pics, Russel. Nice try at the counting too… 😉

There were lots of adults introducing their children and grandchildren to The Beatles at the Fair. It was quite interesting to watch if you’re a people watcher, which I am.
