Today marks the beginning of the San Diego Nighttime Zoo for 2014. Instead of being open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m each day., the Zoo will stay open until 9:00 p.m. each and every day through September 1, 2014.

I love the Nighttime Zoo! Yahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (Smile if you think I’m excited!)

Remember that if you come to San Diego on business or vacation, contact me because I often have free tickets to the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, or SeaWorld. With enough notice, I can usually play docent for a day!

Also, if you fly into San Diego, sit on the left side of the plane. The view of downtown San Diego as you are landing is awesome!

Following are some of my favorite pictures from past visits to the Zoo. Eventually, Photographic Art will be created from these pictures and Julian will upload them to my galleries at Fine Art America for purchase in many different forms (traditional prints, prints on metal or acrylic, posters, cell phone cases, etc.).

Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
Russel has been out with his camera capturing the inhabitants of San Diego Zoo – I like many people are not keen on animals in cages but San Diego Zoo was one of the pioneers of the cageless and natural environments for over 4000 species of animal including the Giant Panda -it sounds like an amazing place and have put on my list of must do’s thanks Russel and here is a link to the zoo – http://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/ as you will see Russel often has free tickets so if you are planning a trip let him know.

We have a couple of zoos “in the wild here. The San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park has 2,000 acres and 90% of the animals roam free with other animals just like they would in Africa. Of course, the meat eaters like the tigers and lions have to be kept separate.

Then there is Lions Tigers & Bears, which is a good-sized sanctuary out in the East San Diego County mountains.

Of course, I know you mean actually going to Africa, but doing something like that is usually not possible time-wise and financially for most people. Ergo, Zoos & Aquariums!

I’d settle for San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park! Probably safer, too 🙂 We do have a sort of Safari Park here in Melbourne (Werribee Park Zoo), that does overnight stays. But it is pretty small and tame. 2,000 acres is alright.

The photos are awesome as usual, but my two favorites are the two intertwined flamingos (amazing) and the meerkat (because I have a thing for meerkats–don’t judge!) 🙂
