      I always had a problem getting flowers for my wise old grandmother because she had growing in her gardens every flower she wanted. I was able to surprise her on occasion, though.

      I first saw a bird of paradise at my uncle’s place in Los Angeles way back in 1968. It was a new, beautiful, and unusual flower to this South Texas boy. I’ve loved it ever since!
