Friday Flower Fiesta from the San Diego Zoo

How did we go a whole month without a Friday Flower Fiesta? I must be losing it since FFF is one of my favorite posts. Here ya go!

All pictures are from the San Diego Zoo during the past month. The first three pictures are of giant hibiscus, located around Flamingo Lagoon just across from the entrance to the Zoo. Giant hibiscus flowers can get up to eighteen inches in diameter and are quite stunning.

Some flowers, like the hydrangea, aren’t supposed to be blooming at this time of year. I have found, though, that flowers often get confused here in San Diego about when they are supposed to bloom. I think it has something to do with the weather.

I scanned an old Christmas card and then took the scanned image to Photoshop where I removed the formerly black bells, inverted them to white, and then turned them into a “rubber stamp” that I could simply paste on top of all the pictures. Took about five minutes.

WOW, 5 minutes? Sounds pretty complicated. I’d like to get a bigger monitor for photoshop projects. The tools buttons on my 14″ Mac are so small, not to mention I’m have blind.

Is that big Aviary still at the zoo?Have you been to the rose Garden in Balboa Park ? It is across one of the streets, I think there is a walking bridge access but not sure. Oh well, memory is not serving me well today.
    Have a great Christmas

There are at least four aviaries at the Zoo. Scripps Aviary and Owens Aviary are the two largest, equal in size. Owens is closer to the front entrance and the one that most people see. Scripps is a little more difficult to get to.

The rose garden in Balboa Park is the is the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden, the largest city-owned rose garden in the nation. A couple are larger but they are owned by counties, city/county combos, or are in state or federal parks.

Here’s a blog post from May from the rose garden: https://russelrayphotos2.com/2013/05/03/friday-flower-fiesta-inez-grant-parker-memorial-rose-garden/

The pictures are beautiful. If you want to get them straightened out on their seasons, send them over here to Michigan. They will have no doubts about whether or not they should be blooming. (On the other hand, Zoey definitely has the ‘you woke me in the middle of hibernation’ look we wear.)
