Stop-signing — a made-up game but lots of fun

Out & About San Diego

This morning at 9:00 I went stop-signing. It’s a made up game that only applies to the Clairemont neighborhood here in San Diego. Starting the weekend of March 10, 2012, someone started yarn-bombing stop signs throughout Clairemont. A yarn-bombed stop sign looks like this:

As you can see, a green “stem” and two “leaves” made out of yarn have been applied to stop signs — yarn bombed.

No one knows how many there are but new ones keep showing up. Our job this morning was to get into groups of three — a driver, a photographer, and a mapper — and find as many yarn-bombed stop signs as possible. We had to document our finds with a location on the map and a picture of the sign. The picture above is the first that my group found.

We had 90 minutes to find as many as possible, but we had to be back at the starting point within those 90 minutes. Anyone late would be disqualified. The winner would receive three tickets for admission to the San Diego Botanic Garden.

My group came in fourth with 29 stop signs. We probably would have gotten more if I had been the driver instead of the photographer. Our driver was a little lady who didn’t know how to use the gas pedal. I, on the other hand, have been driving muscle cars all my life. lol
