Out & About San Diego — I want power! Now!
San Diego County has about three million people living in it, so it’s obvious that somewhere there is really heavy industry, like power plants. There is a nuclear power plant in San Onofre, offline currently due to cooling rod problems. There is a standard power plant on the Chula Vista waterfront, also offline because they are going to be tearing it down. Those were the only two I knew of until recently when I found this one:
That’s the Otay Mesa Energy Center. In the olden days it would have been called a “power plant.” Words….
I drove all around it because it really looked interesting, and it was:
The Otay Mesa Energy Center is located at 606 De La Fuente Court:
I found that the whole South Bay, from the Tijuana River Estuary south of Imperial Beach, along the border with Mexico, all the way over to Lower Otay Lakes and the Otay County Open Space Preserve in south-central San Diego County, was a great place to take pictures of unusual nature and unusual urbanity.
