Ray At Night
When I was exploring North Park a few days ago, I found a new art district that I never knew about.
That’s where I found the mural in my previous blog post, Boys don’t Cry!
The rest of the murals weren’t so frightening.
Ray Street between University Avenue and North Park Way is the Ray Street Art & Culture District.
North Park has always been a unique area of San Diego. They used to — still might — have the area’s largest magazine and newspaper store. When I first came to San Diego from Texas in April 1993, I would stop in North Park to get a copy of the Houston Post. And it wasn’t a week old newspaper. It was that day’s! No idea how they got it so fast.
The San Diego Art Department is located on Ray Street, and it looks like they have special apartments for
starving striving artists.
On the second Saturday of each month, Ray Street hosts Ray At Night. That means tomorrow night is the night!
The whole Ray Street scene looks to be right up my alley so that’s where I’ll be tomorrow night, 6:00-10:00 p.m., browsing boutiques and art galleries, and enjoying live performances and tasty food.
