Ocean Beach, California
![]()
With about seventy miles of coastline, San Diego County has many beach communities. My favorite is probably Ocean Beach, an eclectic community that seems to enjoy being a little different from other beach communities; some call it the Haight-Ashbury of San Diego. Alternative lifestyles. A college town without a college. A main street that used to run right into the ocean until street paving became the norm. The locals don’t even call it Ocean Beach; it’s simply OB.
A couple of years ago Starbucks wanted to open a store. The community went berserk, although some might say that the community was already berserk. Starbucks might be the only nationwide chain that has a main street presence in the community. No McDonald’s, no Burger King, no Wendy’s…. Jack in the Box just barely got into Ocean Beach by a couple of blocks, but that might be because they are headquartered right here in San Diego!
A few pictures from a recent trip into Ocean Beach:

I can see what you mean even from the pics… great place to live I’d say!!!!
I lived in OB for years and just recently moved away to an island… OB Is now my second favorite place to live ever… It was great to see pics of my second home.
Love O.B! Specially the Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays, my favorite by far!
Zoey, you can’t hear me…
Yes, it’s great to have the click to enlarge photo facility working on WordPress. Someone must have heard the grumbling.
Looks like a fun place!
Thank you for taking me there through your photos! Beautiful.
We visit SD quite a bit because of work. But I Amit, I have not been to OB. I’ll make it a point to visit the next time I’m there.
I call it our Venice Beach but milder
OB, all day long! I remember a time in OB. Great post!
Sounds like an interesting place to live – “a college town without a college” – that’s a great line!
I like the OB vibe!
Wonderful photos. Reminds me of Bisbee, Arizona.
Lovely artwork!
