Where to find octopus in San Diego County
![]()
One of the sea creatures that I like most, that I find interesting and exciting, is the octopus.
There is an octopus at SeaWorld San Diego but it never seems to want to come out and play.
The best aquarium in San Diego County for seeing an octopus is the Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California:

The most beautiful octopus, though, is over in Pacific Beach:

That Octopus is just a couple of steps south of Crystal Pier, 4500 Ocean Boulevard, in Pacific Beach:

Crystal Pier is a private hotel pier normally open to the public from sunrise to sunset. It was built in the 1920s with its grand opening in 1927. The pier is 872 feet long, and there are 29 cottages on the first half of the pier. The cottages are very popular, meaning that you have to get reservations 4-6 months in advance for the winter season with a 2-night minimum, and 8-11 months in advance for the height of the tourist season, Memorial Day to Labor Day, with a 3-night minimum.

This is the first time I happen to see a detailed photo of an Octopus. Thanks.
They like to hide in deep, dark caverns, which is how the SeaWorld habitat is set up for their octopus. The one at Sea Life Aquarium is out and about, always active, probably looking for a deep, dark cavern to hide in…….lol
These are really in-depth pictures. I like the one on the wall best though! Great job!
They are amazing animals! :0 Such flexibility!
Beautiful octopus pictures. I really like that old-fashioned postcard effect!
Beautiful shots, they really are tricky critters to get good photos of but you’ve done a wonderful job here!
Great photos of the octopi (live and embedded in cement) and of the cottages on the pier (hate to ride out a “Sandy” storm in one, however).
I don’t think they’ve had to ride out a big storm, or a big earthquake for that matter!
Cottages on a pier in earthquake land? Does that ever make me shake & quake…
