Further exploration of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge
![]()
I discovered the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge a few months ago, but with about 9,200 acres, there is a lot of discovering to do. Although the map says there are several entrances to the Refuge, I haven’t discovered them yet, so I’m relegated to the entrance with the historic Sweetwater Bridge:

I constantly see people out there on the bridge taking pictures of it and family photos. Even wedding parties show up to take pictures of themselves with the bridge in the background.
As I continue to explore the Refuge, making my way deeper into the wild, I continue to discover new things, such as this bridge, aqueduct, and dam:

No animals
great shots and thank you for sharing for those of us who have never been there before xxx
I think most of the animals are in hibernation or migration. I look for them to come back in abundance in a month or so.
Look forward to see what you have over there
You have enough space there for a lifetime of exploration. Incredible.
That is a nice bridge… I’d be taking picture of it and with it also
lol
Love the pictures and this place looks awesome! I look forward to seeing more of your adventures there in the future!

I never knew about this refuge. Looks like a great place for hiking, not that I can hike any more. How difficult are the trails? I know my husband would love to take his camera down there.
The main trails are what I would call Kindergarten trails. For those willing to go to high school or college trails, there are a lot that lead up into the mountains for them. I tend to stick to the Kindergarten trails.
Perfect!
I just love old bridges!
Looks like Cougar Country to me. Be safe!
I don’t think there are enough big trees for cougars. I have seen one coyote so far, though.
