By taking the back roads and the dirt roads beyond the boondocks, one can get quite close to a whole ‘nother country. It’s just behind the fence.

I have no idea what this sign means:

Otay Mesa Inspection Facility

I did a lot of Google searches and the only thing that I could come up with is that Vail’s Gate is the name of this entrance to the Otay Mesa Inspection Facility, in use from 1994 to 2004, and Rhino Crossing is the type of gate. I came to that conclusion because I know that entrances to secure facilities often have names, and Rhino is the manufacturer of security fences. If anyone else has a better idea, let us know.

  1. Interesting photos of the Mexico in comparison to the US. Mexico’s peope are so poor- Most of them that is.

  2. I don’t know . . . I am inclined to believe that there are really rhinos!

  3. wow. I recall as a young girl wading through the Rio Grande river in Big Bend, playfully running back and forth from Texas to Mexico. I wonder what that border looks like now???

  4. It’s amazing what you find on the back roads! All whole other country indeed!

  5. oops, that should be A whole other country indeed.

  6. Seriously impressed with your photos and depth of conceiving and creating.. Thanks for following my blog.

  7. I’d like to see rhinos crossing.

  8. Thanks for continuing to visit. I didn’t see any traces of Zooey around the nishkigoi pond. I have a feeling she’s been doing her Christmas shopping, cracking the whip on Santa’s elves, riding herd on the reindeer and drinking hot cocoa spiked with creme de- cacoa or my favorite holiday extravaganza – hot cider with sake. Give her a rub for me.

  9. I see you are having more fun with framing. I like these. Nicely paired with the images. Robyn

  10. Congratulations! I nominated you for the Blog of the Year 2012 Award. Shine on! http://wp.me/p27eXb-bo
