Out & About

Balboa Park is a great place for a photographer to hang out because there are always interesting things going on.

Yesterday I found this guy practicing:

Practice makes perfect

I don’t normally walk past the children’s playground because there are billions and billions of rugrats runnin’ loose.

I’m glad I did yesterday because I got a couple of nice pictures with not a rugrat in sight!

When I was a rugrat, the parks in my city had teeter totters, merry-go-rounds, swings, monkey bars, and chin-up bars. That playground equipment in the picture actually has a trademarked name: Evos.

  1. When we were in Balboa Park last month I was amazed by the many beautiful structures and exhibits we saw there. We especially liked the Japanese garden and bonsai collection.
We didn;t see the guy on stilts, but saw a tightrope walker practicing in the park. Great fun.

  2. Wonderful post! I love visiting parts of the U.S. I will never truly visit in person. Thank you for sharing ;)

  3. Lovely post Russel! Hugs! – B

  4. I was also in Balboa Park yesterday looking for that area you photographed with the statues and the windy sidewalk with stone wall on each side and people statues some sitting on a bench. Never did find it. Where the heck is that?

  5. False pretences! I came looking to see what kind of crittur a rugrat might be. More fool me… Bossy in American playgrounds, aren’t they?

  6. I would like to play on that…not even my inner kid…just me! :)

  7. Love the photos! Your photography inspires me as well, so thank you for capturing that colorful side of life. Taking the time to seize the moment.

    Pink.

  8. The whale popping out of the sand is fantastic. Our playground only has mundane swings and slides. No whale in sight.

  9. Aww, Zoey napping <3 That guy practicing on wooden ….(i don't know the word in English) is amazing, so colorful, great photo!

  11. I don’t know how those guys balance on the stilts. Fascinates me. :) Lovely park, Russell.

  12. I always wanted to walk on stilts – to see above the crowds. And then, I realized that I would rather be close to the ground where it is a little safer (but not much)…
