Out & About

Today’s Out & About expedition was to the Seventh Annual Del Mar Surf Dog Surf-a-thon. What a blast! I have never seen so many dogs in all my life, even at a dog show. On second thought, I guess this was a dog show, kind of……….

First we had the warmup activities:

  1. I’ve always had great respect for dogs…they are so fearless and joyful!

  2. Great pictures. Our dog, rescued from the streets in Mexico, loves the beach too.

  3. I love dogs of all kinds. They really know how to let go and enjoy themselves :) (Like cats too)

  4. The photos are great! Il oved the ones where they had life jackets on!!

    • The life jackets are required to be worn by the surfing dogs. The jackets have handles on them to easily allow the owners, spotters, and rescuers to easily retrieve a dog caught in the surf. It was the coolest event!

  5. So wonderful of you to share…and Zoey’s thoughts of your dog perusing?? Hee, hee

  6. Me as a dog lover love the dog photos! What did Zoey think of all these do photos on your PC? Very cool!

  7. Love it, love it! Thank you, Russel! I’ll have to re-visit the post again and again…

  8. Those photos are just wonderful. Both my dogs love to swim and one of them loves fishing. He will spend hours trying to catch something. He never does but you have to give him marks for trying. :)

  9. Oh…you have an American Eskimo surfing!! That is what I have but the closest he gets to the water is the toilet. This is so funny to see them getting so wet and loving it! A great series!

  10. What great fun! Thanks for the post. :)

  11. I’ve never seen this before – hilarious!

  12. Wonderful, joyous shots! I can almost smell the wet dogs!

  13. oh man, I wish I could have been there. I bet it was a blast. I just took a bunch of pictures at a dog park next to the river that goes thru our city. I could watch them all day long. Barking, playing and all with big smiles on their faces. I especially like the lab in the green t-shirt there.

    • I don’t know. They had different categories for dog sizes – small, medium, large, extra large, and really reallylarge — I could only stay for a couple of hours, so all I saw were the small, medium, and large dogs. They announced the winners later in the afternoon, about four hours after I left.

  14. I don’t know how you could leave that wheezy roly poly gorgeous bulldog behind…

  15. I loved this, LOL…and such beautiful images! Thanks!

  16. I miss my dogs, they certainly enjoyed the beach
    be good to yourself

  17. Very entertaining, Russel. Especially the last photo, the pooch has such a look of determination. As if to say, “I’m gonna be the best.”
    Blessings – Maxi

  18. They really know how to have fun in the water!

  19. Oh my god..what a fat English Bulldog.. Great photos, I really enjoyed that post :)

  20. Dogs always give great photo ops, and these were awesome!

  21. How great!
Love the smiles on their faces!

  22. I love your photos. What great, fun and adventurous dogs! Looked like fab fun! :)

  23. I love when we get the opportunity to take our dogs to the beach – although neither of them surf!

  24. These shots are seriously amazing Russel!!
    Nicely captured!

  25. Loved these, Russel. I have a yellow lab who could probably surf!

  26. A lot of happy dogs there, Russel. Even a surfin irish setter, oh that would have been something for my old friend..

  27. That looks like so much fun!

  28. Aww, they’re looking great on the surf-board. Tired of looking the pics, Zoey TCC :)
