Frame those birds, baby, frame those birds

How I Did It

I like to frame my pictures but the framing function (border) at WordPress is lacking, at best.

I used to use Corel PaintShop Pro X4 and CorelDRAW! X6 to do frames. In fact, Zoey the Cool Cat’s stamp of approval in each post is done in CorelDRAW! X6.

My focus over the past few months has been on Adobe Photoshop CS6, so I was extremely happy recently to find the various framing functions. Many of the frames can be done with Actions, or you can do your own frame and set up your own Action. Actions are macros, or scripts, that allow you to do the same thing over and over again, very quickly.

Following are some recent pictures of birds at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park which were framed in Photoshop CS6.

  1. What has that Zoey found this time, to sleep upon! She must be a constant source of fun for you.

  2. I am definitely going to have to learn how to photoshop.

  3. Photoshop CS6 Better Than CS5……….i like it

  4. I too find Word Press framing to be lacking but have never wanted to take the plunge to purchase PhotoShop as I have always heard how expensive it is. Since I cannot call myself a photographer, it just never made sense to me. I love your photos above so perhaps I should take another look.

  5. Love that selection of birds; so colourful and different. Of course I realize they are enhanced by your considerable photoshopping skills.

  6. Where I used to live, the Mallard couples use to walk down the country lane in the morning. I just loved watching them toodle along, maybe planning their day?

  7. My cousin Vinny framed his Godfather. He looks much better in stripes.

  8. These are some gorgeous birds :)

  9. The frames are great, but I was totally impressed by the bird photos, especially after having just returned from San Diego and, in a few short hours at the San Diego Zoo, attempted to get some decent bird photos. I recognize the blue bird with the gorgeous feather crown, and the last, brown bird. And I just wanted to let you know, I appreciated the tip about photographing through the cage bars. When the bird is close to the front bars, it’s impossible to eliminate the cage from the photo. I was shooting on manual focus quite a bit :)

  10. Nice job with the frames… OnOne has a nice framing and border modual as well.

  11. The frame looks nice and the photo’s too :)
