Christmas is just around the corner
I don’t celebrate Christmas in a traditional way, i.e., with presents and all the to do over someone who died a couple of thousand years ago. That just seems strange to me. However, since about one-sixth of the world and probably 90% of America closes down on Christmas Day, I have little choice but to close down with it. That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to try to stay open.
Christmas tradition in my family over the past 18 years means a trip to the San Diego Zoo and finding somewhere to eat so I don’t have to cook. The first is easy since the Zoo is always open on Christmas day. The second is a little more difficult.
If you’re in San Diego on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and are looking for fine dining, I can highly recommend the Little Italy area of San Diego.
I’ve have been to Little Italy on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day for the past three years. Considering that Italy arguably is the most Christian country in the world, I think it’s kind of funny that Little Italy here is always open and doing great business on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Nonetheless, I can highly recommend it for Christmas, or any other day of the year, too!

Do we have to talk ‘Christmas’ now…? Eeeeeek; it’s far too early… This year hasn’t even been two weeks and here it is more than half way… (Does that make sense..!?!)
I’d love to visit San Diego; it seems to be a place that all you U.S. guys agree about..! Fun and plenty of things to do… Sounds great..!
Awesome!!
GAHHH!!! Summer isn’t over yet!!!!!
Love the Little Italy sign though.
was that now necessary to remind us that it’s just around the corner when I remember last years as though it was yesterday… we do the same and look for somewhere to eat out.. this year we have a special time arranged and will be next to the orange river, and Augrabies falls…
Christmas around the corner? Say it ain’t so, Sam!
On July 25 each year Christmas is around two corners!………lol
It’s crackin’ me up that you posted something about Christmas this early. I’m not a fan of Christmas myself, too much hustle and bustle that leaves me feeling exhausted. I haven’t, however, found a way to move myself away from all the hype (though I grip about the holiday the entire time leading up to it). Maybe I need to take a page out of your book and make a trip out to San Diego for some Italian goodness, and a little vaca around that time of year!
First you have to convince yourself that you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars and days of your time each year on Christmas cards and presents. Once you get past that, the rest is easy.
I love Little Italy in S.D. They do have wonderful food!
I have always wanted to live in San Diego–such a great place. I have visited and love the zoo there. I feel the same way about Christmas. So many people seem to want me to do what they want to do. I would much rather hang out at the zoo…good for you!
Oh but I love Christmas!
I love not worrying about Christmas and yours sounds such fun.
Gathering up those little “happies” to go in Christmas boxes for grandchildren already, am I!~
Just one more reason to visit San Diego!
ahhha Zoey, you are very bendy. Thanks for the tip, will check out next time through
I think we will visit Little Italy this year! Great Idea!
It looks like X-mas is every year a little sooner, that’s why I try to avoid it too. We don’t have a Little Italy, and everything is closed, but I still have time to think what to do
We are non traditionalist when it comes to Christmas, but I never thought about Italian food. We’ve done Chinese (only place open on the West Side). It’s a bit far to go to San Diego, but maybe worth it.
I was going to say the same… I would think out of all places it would be Little Italy that is closed on Christmas eve/day!! You live & learn
love little italy. wonderful restaurants.
Oooo cool effects
