Out in the boondocks

Picture of the Moment

When I was 17, a male cousin, 10 at the time, started a hay baling business. He wanted me to work with him. I did it once and decided that hay baling wasn’t going to be my life’s work.

My home inspection yesterday was out in the boondocks. I love going out to the boondocks because I never know what I’m going to find there. It reminds me of my youth in Kingsville, Texas, which was the epitome of “out in the boondocks” — one reason why I don’t live there anymore. The boondocks are nice to visit……….lol

Here is what I saw out in the boondocks yesterday:

  1. Boondocks: beautiful to look at; hard to live in. There is nothing like a job like that to get young people thinking about better ways to make a living!

  2. OH! So that’s what those hay barrels look like before they are rolled. I love seeing them stacked but they look like fields of shedded wheat before they are cut and rolled. Thanks for sharing..

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  3. Ah! You just fed my soul. It’s a dream post retirement.

    Thanks!

PS: Going to use the word ‘Boondock’, soon! ;)

  4. Absolutely beautiful! Fabulous shots! It’s always a surprise to me to find spots like this in So Cal.

  5. Reminds me of my childhood, except there were no mountains in Sask.

    • One of the things I most love about San Diego is the topography. I grew up on the flat lands and beaches of South Texas, so to have mountains ten minutes from me is awesome. Within a 30-minute drive I can go to beaches, deserts, mountains, lakes, forests, or even a foreign country! During the winter it even snows in the mountains while it can be 75° at the beaches, so water skiing in the morning and snow skiing in the afternoon.

  6. Can’t imagine I’d have taken to hay bailing either. Beret pics though

  7. Ahhh, wish I could smell the hay! I love the boondocks :)

  8. There’s a peacefulness about the pictures that’s very appealing! It’s quite artistic (as a place to visit anyway) :)

  9. Cool rock formations on the hillside. So does anyone know the origin of the word ‘boondocks’? It’s a great word.

  10. boondocks came from tagalog word “bundok” meaning mountain or rural areas which is its colloquial meaning.. Tagalog (or Filipino) is one of the languages (the other one is english) of the Philippines.. Nice photos..

Let your words flow
