Cats: Tennis, wet, stray, cool, nashville, honky, long tail, and cradle
Yesterday I spiced up my life by going “door knocking.” That’s what I call it when someone stops by a blog, reads the most recent post, clicks on LIKE, possibly leaves a comment, and moves on. It’s like the two Mormon missionary boys who knock on my front door. No time to get to know me. They just have a task to do and that’s it (and it’s amazing how fast they skeedaddle out of here when I tell them I’m a gay man in an 18-year gay marriage).
One of the comments to my post yesterday asked if Zoey the Cool Cat approved of me watching tennis instead of blog camping. You be the judge:
Tennis is the only thing she watches on television, and that’s her tennis-watching position. Since it’s a liquid plasma TV, I think the angle from the chair to the TV allows her to see the tennis ball moving across the screen. She is never interested in anything else on TV, not the birds chirping, not the cats meowing, not the dogs barking…… just tennis.
Right after the Olympic men’s tennis final yesterday, here’s how Zoey the Cool Cat celebrated:
Okay, maybe she didn’t celebrate……… Isn’t it cute how she’s sticking her little pink tongue out at me because I gave her a bath?….lol
In honor of Zoey the Cool (wet tennis) Cat, I thought we would explore cat songs today. Following are favorites from my music collection. “Cat’s in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin, from 1974, is a commentary on the state of the family. It’s even more relevant today than it was 38 years ago.

O Zoey, what did you do to earn that bath? I have two cats and they’ve never had a bath, am I a bad mom?
About every six months Zoey the Cool Cat gets into a scratching mood. She’ll scratch and scratch until she starts bleeding. The first time it happened, I took her to the vet. The vet diagnosed her with dry skin, gave me some “Tearless Shampoo” by Four Paws Magic Coat, and told me that whenever she scratched excessively to the bleeding stage, just give her a bath. The warm water and the shampoo would soften and moisten her skin. Turns out that she needs a bath about every six months, but it’s not set it stone. It’s set by when she starts scratching herself to the bleeding stage.
Some times the simple things make the most sense.
Nice “Cats in the Cradle.” Favorite song, think I’ll post it on FB (maybe my boys will see it). Yes, I’m very guilty of knockin’ on doors (as you well know). If you ever run out of commas I have a few left over that I have not used. I keep a tin full of them. You never know when they will come in handy.
Door knocking is okay if it’s done every day. Hey, that rhymes. Poetry…….my next profession.
hahahahahah
I swear the wet cat picture made me laugh lol
Thanks!
Are you laughting at Zoey the Cool (wet) cat?…………lol
just a little lol
Poor bedraggled Zoey. Has she forgiven you yet?
She always hides under the bed for about five minutes after a bath. Then she comes out and finds her food…………….all is well. I really do believe that she knows its for her own good because she feels so much better after a bath, no scratching, nice soft fur.,……..
Your posts make me smile…love the door knocking analogy. You have a great way with words!
Thanks for your kind words this morning.
You should be in the FBI!
Poor Zoey – is she okay now – do you realize how much your readers love your cat?
Zoey the Cool Cat knows of all her fans…….. Wish I had that many!…….lol
How many Zoey photos have you taken?
I’m still cataloging them, but it looks like it’s around 5,300.
What? My god – you and Zoey are both rather extraordinary!!!!. 5,300!!!!! I’m going to bed so I bet you anything that I will have Zoey cat picture dreams – thanks a lot – I mean I usually don’t even like cats!
Caliche, I love this post! So much great music and approved by ZTCC! Excellent!
Hey, Peg! Nice to see you. I see you occasionally on Facebook, but since I don’t hang out there much. WordPress has an automatic “post to Facebook” function that I use.
Poor Zoey…LOL
She feels much better, though, and she knows it.
A bath has that effect…:D
Oh lovely Zoey, did he take your bath picture ? You seem so funny… but who can’t seem funny
I love you dear Zoey, Blessing and Happiness, I watch tennis too
Love, nia
Holy smoke, Russel, didn’t realize Zoey was so big … even wet from a bath. Doesn’t matter, she’s beautiful wet or dry. Btw, does she like a bath?
Blessings – Maxi
13 pounds. And it’s a resounding NO! as to whether or not she likes a bath. She howls like a wolf in heat in the forest, so I close the windows so the neighbors won’t call animal control on me for animal torture.
Great musical selection for a clean cat. I have liked the Coasters for many years, but had never seen a picture.
I like your term, “door knocker” for what we all do when we have so much mail and so little time-we try to be cordial, right. I love your response to the Mormon missionary boys-its more likely the Jehovah’s Witnesses here, but I know some folks who have some fun pushing the box with these people. My cats are conceited, I guess, they won’t watch TV, but will sit and stare at themselves in the mirror for hours…nice read! beebeesworld
I had two Mormon boys at my door yesterday and they were wonderful kids who asked me if they could do yard work – dressed in white shirts and tie and dress pants — it was too hot for them to ask such a question – yet they did — I was super impressed
great post and i bet your cat was seriously mad at you for making her take a bath
i love cats!!!
awe poor zoey…but I am gald she will feel better soon, it’s all worth it. I love my two cats too. They are so human I sware..and today I am Ill, so I got some time to catch up on blog commenting. I am so glad we are friends and that you made a comment on my garden photo. Yes, your grand parents are wise: plant a seed and watch it grow gives us another day to hold on to… Love ya, Jackie♥
I love this! I do a Tunes Tuesday where I highlight great lyrics and cats in the cradle is a brilliant idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
Zoey, you look so cool…but I had to look twice before I’ve noticed that it was -a cat-… you
I love the song Cats in the cradl, so nostalgia.
Love Harry Chapin, and the tennis cat! They (i.e. cats) do seem to like high vantage points … and I agree about the blog visiting comments. I’ve noticed that people will ‘like’ something in the Reader without actually visiting the post and reading the details. I do some ‘likes’ that way, but I try to make time to visit blogs properly too, as here! I’m glad you’ve mentioned this, and I hope people read and take note … =D
I would love to post a picture of Zoey reading on my blog under 4- legged readers. I assume she reads as she seems like such an accomplished cat and surely she can’t watch tennis all the time! Email to Susan@Fridaymorningbookclub.com. Thanks
Oh, yes. Zoey the Cool Cat reads. Just ask the former employees of Borders in National City, where she was the bookreading star kitty cat.
great post! I really enjoyed it!!!
love zoey watching tennis and wet
LikE
Stray Cat Strut all the way. They say dogs couldn’t see TV before HD. I guess I had a few with special eyes.
Nice to see Zoey again. It has been awhile since I dropped by. When I had only indoor cats I used to bathe them too. The heater and A/C really dries out their skin.
Thanks for the music! I love Honky Cat and hadn’t heard it in a long time. Hope al lis going well with you, Jim and Zoey.
Hey, Susan. Thanks for stopping by. I’m having so much more fun here at WordPress than I ever had at that other place.
Lovely music choices… though I wasn’t able to hear all of them.
poor puss, it’s enough to make her HATE tennis!
Sweet Zoey you are our kind of girl…we love to watch tennis too. We feel for you gettin’ a bath though, we don’t like bathes. Hugs and nose kisses
Please tell Zoey, there’s another “cat” song. “Cool for Cats” -Squeeze:)
HAHAHA I love the first one and how content she looks, and then that second one made me laugh haha! She’s like, gee… thanks dad lol!
Russel, my fellow cat lover, a man after my own heart
Zoey was not happy with you in that first pic! And I LOVED the Stray Cat Strut back in the day…okay telling my age, gotta go!
It’s amazing, though, how calm and relaxed Zoey the Cool Cat is after getting a bath and having to spend most of the day scratching anymore.
