Picture of the Moment — Connection
Yesterday I discovered my next job: Horse Walker.
The job is actually called “hot walker.”
As I was cataloging the 898 pictures I took at the Del Mar horse races yesterday, I fell in love with this picture. I titled it “Connection” because I can see a connection between man and animal in their expressions, and as one commenter noted below, the two of them are even in step with each other.

That is what I have always loved about horses–that sociable connection they seem to make with people and with each other, but on a mutually respectful level. Sort of like cats . . . .
Did you “photo-shop” some rubber boots on that poor horse? C’mon, fess-up Russel.
I did not!
Oh. My bad.
A horse is a very loving companion when they find their matching human that compliments their personality.
I learned a lot about horses yesterday, but I’m still not a fan of horse racing. We got into a short discussion about horse injuries that require the horse to be killed. Our contact said, “Horses are athletes. There will be injuries.” To which I thought but did not say, “Uh, no. Horses are not athletes. Athletes have a choice as to whether or not they want to compete. Horses do not.”
My problem with i is the age they start the horses at. Their bones aren’y fully developed until the age of 3-4 and they are racing them at 2-3,, which is why you see so many injuries.
Exactly.
yes…there is a connection definitely….what a beautiful photo of the two
I like Horse Races, I just don’t like the industry & people behind. How can anyone dare to train a 7 month old foal on a treadmill? To ride it at the age of 1 and a half? How can they dare to misstreat this wonderful creatures by beating them all the time & let them jump huge fences while racing? That s pretty sad.
Horses are a huge part of my life & I love my horsie to death (more on my blog –> category Horsie & me). I wish people would stop to see them just with dollar notes in their eyes & start to treat them right & enjoy a great time with them – without any pressure…
Lovely photo tho…
Totally agree!
They are even connected in their steps. NIce capture
Sure enough! I had not noticed, unless subliminally.
Horses and cats. You got me right there. So thank you for signing up to follow my blog, and I’m following suit. Have you ever read any of Dick Francis’ mystery novels? A former jockey, his mysteries revolved around horses or horse racing (the good and the bad), and they keep the reader riveted.
Oh, yeah. My other half works at Barnes & Noble after working for Borders for 34 years before they went bankrupt. We have a whole room of pre-published and uncorrected proofs, many signed by the authors. I think we have everything by Francisc since 1993, including the last four with Felix Francis.
I am certain many connect to their animals via thoughts I know my Cats used to connect to mine.. looks like you had a great time there at the races.. ~Sue Thankyou for dropping by and camping out for a time in my own blogland.

The eyes, the mouth, the forward step … unity between horse and human. Good job, Russel.
Blessings – Maxi
That would be fun. What a gorgeous horse!
