The Getty Center in Los Angeles, part 3
The Getty Center in Los Angeles, part 1
The Getty Center in Los Angeles, part 2
Ask me what my favorite part of The Getty Center is and my answer is the gardens. When I first saw a picture of the Cactus Garden back in 1997 when The Getty Center opened, I knew I had to go see it to complete my life as a Cactus & Succulent fan:
How famous and beautiful is the Cactus Garden? Well, as we were leaving, we were asked to complete a questionnaire about our visit. For doing so, we got a free postcard showing, of course, the Cactus Garden with Studio City and the UCLA campus in the background:
Gardens and water are an integral part of the landscaping of The Getty Center, and the Central Garden was the most magnificent:
Everywhere one looked (outside), there were plants and water features:
In this last picture, look at the bottom and you’ll see a photographer taking a picture……….of me! He and I would raise our cameras, see the other guy, not take the picture, lower our cameras, see that the other one had lowered his camera, raise our cameras………. Finally we both took our pictures and walked away. I wonder where his blog is….

Thank you so much for these photographs – if we ever make it to Los Angeles, we’ll most certainly be visiting the Getty Center.
And I have more to come!
These photos are spectacular; i look forward to them every day.
What magnificent gardens to visit, I would go absolutely crazy there.. you are so lucky to have the chance to photo there… Do you think the other blokes blog might be better than yours, or do you think you might not have got the better shot? What ever I think your photos would win hands down…
The other bloke is an amateur. You can tell by the clothes he’s wearing…………lol
What a great answer.. top marks for you…
Nice Pics! Great post. You are truly a cactus and succulent fan, and I think I am one now, too.
$6.55 ear turned.
Very cool place! Russ, you did a great photographic detailed description of this monument to nature.
I love California! I’ve never heard of this place, but next time I’m in the area, I will definitely have to try to get there. The gardens are beautiful!
Thanks for the nice tour Russel. You captured it perfectly. What a marvelous place to visit.
Great shots! I have been the Getty a couple of times, the architecture is amazing!
Love the tour and the info!

Well I now think I could be a cactus fan too!
Wow! This looks like a really cool place to visit! Thanks!
amazing and beautiful pictures!
What an amazing place to visit. Thanks for the wonderful photos, Russel.
Amazing cactus garden
Beautiful! I’ve been to the Getty 4 times and I’ve never seen the cactus garden! Didn’t even know they had one. Thanks for letting me see it.
If you haven’t seen the cactus garden, I’m thinking that you went to the old Getty Museum, now called the Getty Villa, rather than the new Getty Center. It would be extremely hard to miss the Cactus Garden during one visit, much less four.
Yet somehow I managed. And I assure you I know the Getty from the Villa and know where each is. I blame my guide or maybe I just don’t recognize the garden from your photos. I do have memory problems, so maybe I just forgot.
I thank you for the photos. I believe a trip to the Getty is in my near future!
Someday I will have a blog like yours. This is beautiful.
Wauw…. I wish we had sights like these around here
I enjoyed your pictures very much. Especially the bushes on the water, and the.. tree-like concoctions with pink flowers on top? Those were beautiful!
Fantastic shots of a very beautiful place.
I haven’t been here yet. Next time…
Wow! What cool areas! Very artsy
i was at the getty center when it opened in ’97 – this post and your photos brought back great memories!
