Comic Con International 2012 & San Diego — One big billboard

Out & About San Diego

Comic Con International 2012 has taken over the city, and several surrounding cities, too. It’s kind of funny when you go out to eat and you see Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca eating Mexican food and sipping on margaritas. Even funnier is that they haven’t aged a day in 37 years. Technology in the future must be wonderful!

If you go downtown, you’ll notice that almost every hotel has a huge billboard on it, but these aren’t your ordinary billboards. Again, technology.

I believe the Hilton Bayfront, the first hotel pictured below, has been taken over by politicians………..power is everything.

Comic Con International 2012 is expected to bring 150,000 people to the convention and millions of dollars to the regional economy. Yeah Comic Con! May the Force be with you, and us!

As an aside, I just found out that today is the 70th birthday of none other than Harrison Ford/Han Solo. Happy Birthday!

  1. I have a resident spider man home from college for the summer,

  2. Harrison Ford is 70? Talk about a well-preserved dude! ComiCon has got to be great for San Diego. That seems like a crowd that spends a lot of $$$ and probably doesn’t cause many problems.

  3. I remember fondly the year that a work conference and comic were both on in san diego at the same time I was a 35 yr old comics fan so was thrilled tho understand its gotten bigger and bigger and more and more unwieldily in the ensuing decade or so

  4. Nice post. How did they get those big signs on the buildings? What are they made of? How long do they stay up? Doesn’t it bother the guests that their views are somewhat obliterated? Sorry about all those questions but in upstate NY we don’t see that sort of thing.

    • I believe the really big ones are done with lights because they go up instantaneously and come down instantaneously when the convention is over. That would certainly preclude the magnificent views from being obliterated. However, on the other hand, during the convention, 0700 to 2200, no one should be in their rooms anyway……lol

  5. Gee it’s too bad it’s only a Convention… Wouldn’t it be great to have a perment home there?

  6. YAY Love Harrison :D Also, I’d love to go to comic con someday haha! I’m a super nerd and that would be a lot of fun!
