Going up or coming down?

Picture of the Moment

As a home inspector I have to look for visual clues about the history of a house, such as any past water damage, fire damage, structural damage from earthquakes and wind, and so on.

Look at the following picture and tell me if you are at the top of the flight of stairs looking down, or at the bottom looking up. Pay attention to the visual clues in the picture.

  1. I’m going to say going down.

  2. That is interesting :) I think it is taken from the top of the stairs.. I’m not too sure ..

  3. Takwn from top of the stairs going down!

  4. Looks to be going down but we’ve probably missed an important clue!

  5. My eye is drawn up. So I say up the stairs.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  6. The perspective tells me we are going up – interesting visual puzzle…

  7. I’d say at the top looking down.

  8. The stairs go down but lead nowhere. For that reason they have not been used in years. The moss growns on the top of the stairs. At the bottom is a large pad of concrete. If we were looking up that pad would be a very large step. The concrete work was done by a mason from Crete (e.g. con Crete; “with a Cretian”). The mason had the index finger of his left hand missing due to an accident with a large stone. The stairs were commissioned in 1938 by a mid-eastern business man. That is evidenced by the walls on either side of the steps. They have no utilitarian purpose but are reminiscent of the walls of the Arabian stairs of Madrid. The concrete is a mixture of 12% sand, 48% gravel, and 50% crushed sea shell. A psychic once lived in the house connected to these stairs. He predicted the failure of Evil Knevil’s unfortuitous leap over the Grand Canyon and the dot-com financial bust. The house is now on the market for $400 and the furniture/appliances go with the property. Oh yes, I almost missed that last clue. There is a penny candy store within three blocks of the property. That is evidenced by a lack of candy wrappers on the stairs. Penny candy is sold out of a large jar and is never wrapped.

  9. Thanks for the picture puzzle. I enjoyed it.

  10. It’s taken from the top of the steps, because some of the edges are broken, and also, the moss is a giveaway. ;)

  11. Top of stairs going down, foilage is growing up off of the steps

  12. From the top, going down :)

  13. Agree with most, top of stairs, going down. :)

  14. top looking down- jeez Wally certainly seems to know what he is talking about

  15. Cynthia Ann Katon-Alfonso

At the top looking down where ground vegetations grow.

  16. Top looking down. So, are we right?

  17. Top looking down. Now I’ll go read the other comments.

  18. I think fromthe top looking down..

  19. Top looking down, I’d say, by looking at how the steps are layed. My guess. :-)

  20. Surely at the top looking down because of the light & area the moss grows on the step?

  21. Going down as the moss grows where the water drains from

  22. I love old steps like those! Beautiful :)
