Out of this world in San Diego
The San Diego County Fair’s last day for 2012 was July 4. The theme this year was “Out Of This World.”
I went to the Fair on June 14, and ever since then alien creatures have been on my mind. Following are a few of the aliens that I have come across in San Diego County from June 14 to July 4.

How fun. I recognize one of those public art sculptures.
Hi Russel – still having wp probs so have resorted to reader to catch up – sorry! Jx
Can’t you just pay WP a few billion dollars to make your problems go away? lol
Sorry I only have half a billion on hand!
There’s the problem! Put the rest on your credit card. lol
Oh very funny – I have just resigned from my university job after nearly 20 years so I am flat broke. You could lend me a billion?
Do you take credit cards?
Only if they are full!
lol
Definitely “out of this world” Russel. Thanks for sharing.
I love the walrus…and is that a version of Quetzal (oh dear, I’ve completely forgotten how to get even close on spelling this part) Cuatal? And what little building is it on top of? Is it a moseleum (apparently can’t spell that one either…sorry visiting blog friends is more important than a spell check at the moment
) Very interesting structure and sculpture.
By the way. I wrote and posted a flash fiction piece for a contest, partly inspired by your Chicano Park history posts. Thanks for teaching me so much that I might otherwise miss out on!
You are speaking a language with which I am not familiar……..lol
If your Quetzal/Cuatal is referring to the last picture, I haven’t a clue other than that the picture is of the “Sun God” on the campus of the University of California, San Diego. Is Quetzal/Cuatal the Sun God?
Apparently I didn’t understand…more like remember…myself. Here’s the Wikipedia short version: Quetzalcoatl (Classical Nahuatl: Quetzalcohuātl [ketsaɬˈko.aːtɬ]) is a Mesoamerican deity whose name comes from the Nahuatl language and has the meaning of “feathered serpent”.
) got things muddled. Do you know what the little building is that the sculpture is on top of?
Apparently related to gods of wind or dawn. I was also going for the sun god, so was a little off. I was reaching back to a report I did in school, and I remembered the feathered part and that he was sometimes depicted parrot-like. Therefore years and my vague grasp of historical facts (I’m great at philosophical concepts
The little building is simply a walk-through base that was built specifically for the Sun God statue. I think the purpose was to get it off the ground and into the air, as a god might be, and to protect it from damage.
Thanks for the many replies to my inquisitive mind this evening. I like that they made it walk-though instead of a block. Cool.
The Sun God is also part of the Stewart Collection of art. Here are two of my previous blog posts:

Which reminds me that I need to do some more blog posts about the Stuart Collection. Now that I know how to sharpen pictures in Photoshop………….
Interesting collection of photos about aliens
I find it kind of funny that you included the the cartoons like sesame street
