The African Pygmy Hedgehog
This African Pygmy Hedgehog was running around at the San Diego County Fair, and the public (me!) were allowed to pet and play with them.

How cute! What did he feel like? Was he snuggly or scared?
They did not appear to be frightened but they were very active. Really like to scurry around. And their fur? Well, it’s not like your dog or cat. It’s more like a porcupine. Pet it the wrong way and you get poked.
Very strange creature. Were you holding it or the camera?!
I was holding the camera. Friends believe that the surgeons have surgically attached my camera to my hand.
Too cute!
Hi,
He is gorgeous.
That’s hysterical! And cute
Very cute, but I wonder if the poor little critter liked being held like that? I suppose that’s the only way to hold him so that you don’t get poked with his spiky back.
The caretakers were showing all his flabby skin. I guess it’s kind of like a momma cat picking up her kittens by the flabby skin on the neck. I figure if the animal isn’t biting, scratching, and fighting to get away, it’s probably okay.
Very interesting to see its bottom .You usually only see their backs
Or, in my case, never see them at all! lol
Such a funny little creature. That’s quite an undignified pose.
I don’t think the little one realized that he was being undignified. lol
These precious, prickly creatures are rather shy and timid, I don’t think this was very comfortable. Poor thing. They really prefer to be left alone to hunt and hide. That may be why they were so active, trying to find a safe place
He did say that they were nocturnal and this was about 3:00 in the afternoon.
