Fantastic photo!
Thanks, Robin!
Russel, you can stop it any day now. One of my first big papers in JHS were on the osprey and the other was on the cheetah. My biology teacher loved them so much she made me a teacher’s aid. I was such an outcast, but I loved animals SO much I couldn’t help myself. We build special perches for osprey here in Idaho because they often electrocute themselves on the wires trying to get to, or build their nests. Their wing span is such that when they try to build nests they hit two wires at once. Idaho F&G has started building special perches, they started this over 20 years ago and it has been successful. The perches are specifically for ospreys in the desert wilds so the don’t die from electrocuting themselves when their wings, inadvertently touch electrical wires. Just a little FYI
We have a lot of ospreys near the coast, which also happens to be where we have a lot of parking lots for people going to the beaches. The parking lots have extremely tall light poles except that every sixth light pole is not a light pole at all. It’s a specially built platform for ospreys to nest on. The area where I found this nesting bird has eight nesting pairs that I could get to and a couple more that I couldn’t get to.
Do a search on my site for “osprey.” All of those pictures were taken at the same parking lot.
Zoey is so cute. Reminds me of my precious Sammie.
Amazing picture! I adore ospreys — we have them everywhere here, too, on the opposite coast… But WOW! What a capture.
No kidding it did not look happy! Perhaps this is how “Angry Birds” came into creation….?
Great capture.
When I spend a lot of time below birds in trees, I worry that I’ll end up with bird poo on my head. A friend did once and it actually wasn’t as funny (as one might think).
Since I started birding again this past January, I’ve thought about that. Maybe that’s why everyone wears hats! lol
RUN RUSSEL RAY ! RUN!
Don’t worry. I made it home! lol
Whew! Good!
