SNIPPETS — #7: Kiva & Donors Choose. You, too, can help!
#7: Kiva & Donors Choose. You, too, can help!
Most of us don’t have billions of dollars like Bill Gates with which to start a Foundation. That doesn’t mean that we can’t help, though.
I have found two organizations that I work with in order to help as much as I can. Maybe you would like to help?
- Kiva — Kiva is a non-profit organization that connects people through lending to alleviate poverty by leveraging the internet and using a worldwide network of microfinance institutions. You can lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. There currently are 752,945 Kiva lenders — I’m one of them! — and $305 million in loans. Loans have a 98.9% repayment rate. You get to choose the people you loan to — small businesses, agriculture, music, teachers…. — in countries throughout the world. Click on the link to learn more about how it works and get involved if you can.
- Donors Choose — Donors Choose is set up specifically to help students, teachers, classes, and schools. You can donate by subject or find a specific school in a specific city and state, if they are participating and have needs. I usually donate to music in our schools, even having gone so far as to buy a new bow for a poor but budding violinist, hoping that he’ll take his musical interest further than I did.
SNIPPETS are short posts about anything and everything.
Each SNIPPETS will also have a picture.
After all, this is Russel Ray Photos.
